Nursing BSN Licensure

The baccalaureate degree program in nursing at Carson-Newman University is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing and is approved by the Tennessee Board of Nursing. The degree program is designed to prepare students for licensure requirements in the State of Tennessee. In addition to completing the BSN degree, graduates must pass the National Council Licensure Exam NCLEX for Registered Nurses to qualify as a candidate for licensure in Tennessee.

Completing a BSN at Carson-Newman and passing the NCLEX exam may lead to licensure in other states, particularly those who are members of the Nurse Licensure Compact, but is its best to consult state licensing boards to determine requirements in specific states. It is recommended that a Carson-Newman BSN graduate who wishes to seek licensure outside of the state of Tennessee research requirements for licensure in that state and contact the appropriate licensing agency (see contact information in disclosure table).  Students must be aware that state laws, regulations, and requirements for licensure and certification vary from state to state and may change without notice.

Carson-Newman strongly recommends that prospective and currently enrolled students who plan to seek licensure or certification in nursing outside the state of Tennessee contact the appropriate licensing agency for information and guidance before enrolling in the program. It is also imperative that students be cognizant of licensing requirements when they relocate to a state outside the state of Tennessee after beginning the program. Students should also discuss licensing requirements with their adviser before enrolling in the nursing program or when relocating to a state outside of Tennessee.

Carson-Newman has determined that the Bachelor of Science program offered by the university meets the requirements to apply for licensure in the state of Tennessee. For additional information regarding licensure and certification in any state other than Tennessee or U.S. territory, students should consult the specific state licensure board listed by state and U.S. territory in the disclosure information below.
